Come out to watch the Solomons Boat Parade Tonight Dec 4th, 2010. The Solomons boat parade starts at 6:15 from Solomons Yachting Center and heads up Back Creek, then down the creek for judging at Solomons Yachting Center. The parade will proceed up the Patuxent River along the boardwalk before returning to Solomons Harbor. Enjoy the show on the Patuxent River from Solomons Island Boardwalk!

Romantic architecture of the Old South illustrates how today’s craftsmen can recapture the style and substance of a traditional wood form. From its clapboard siding to its carved mantels, the house reflects meticulous attention to detail. William E. Poole, a residential designer, planned it. With 265′ of waterfront, this home overlooks Mill Creek, a tributary to the Chesapeake Bay and The Patuxent River! Mill Creek leads to the Harbor in quaint Solomons Island Waterfront!

Poole drew his ideas for the house from the antebellum planter’s cottages that dot the banks of the lower Mississippi River near Natchez. One such cottage, the c 1820 Briars, particularly influenced him. (Students of southern history will remember the house as the site of the 1845 marriage of Varina Howell to Jefferson Davis.)

The word “cottage” seems a quaint misnomer, given the size of some planters’ homes. This home is spacious, comprising more than 6,000 sq. ft. Similarly, its facade recalls the earlier house with its full-width, columned gallery under a gabled roof and its arched dormer windows.

The owners’ modifications include a family room with vaulted ceiling, chef’s kitchen and enclosed sun room. The family room and the master suite access a raised rear deck that overlooks Mill Creek.
